You may be eligible for Accident on Set benefits if you’re injured on a set location as deemed by production while working on a production with Accident on Set coverage.

Producers are required to have Accident on Set coverage for all performers and stunt performers in provinces and territories that are excluded from local workers’ compensation programs. Where workers’ compensation is optional, a Producer may choose either that or Accident on Set.

You may be eligible for Accident on Set benefits if you:

Considerations

  • The injury must be related to an accident while working on a set location of an insured production.

This includes those times when the Producer requires the performer or stunt performer to be available, for example, for wardrobe, rehearsal or hair and make-up. Direct travel from your residence to the set location (or from a temporary residence when you’re required to live away from home for all or part of the production) is also covered.

  • Canadian residents who travel outside their province or territory of residence for a production (within Canada or abroad) should also have Travel Emergency Medical (TEM) coverage in place as Accident on Set is not a replacement or substitute for TEM coverage.

While hospital and doctor’s fees may be reimbursed up to the level established by the performer’s province of residence, some expenses (like ambulance costs) may not be covered. Furthermore, emergency medical coverage can help with repatriation or have family with you if you are injured. Please ensure the necessary protections are in place.

  • Travel Emergency Medical Benefits are available to eligible AFBS Members under the Members’ Insurance Program, check to see if you have coverage in place.

If your Benefit Level is at Bronze Level or above, you reside in Canada, are 84 or younger and have provincial or territorial health coverage, you automatically qualify for AFBS Travel Emergency Medical coverage. This provides short-term emergency service only, check your program limitations. Check your Member Profile on afbs.ca to see if Travel Emergency Medical is part of your individual insurance level, what documentation to take when you travel and how to make claims.

  • As a performer or stunt performer who is a non-resident of Canada, you are only covered for Accident on Set coverage while working in Canada on an Accident on Set insured production.

As a non-resident performer or stunt performer, you do not have access to Canadian universal health care, and you must have Visitor to Canada medical protection to cover hospital and doctor’s expenses. Basic hospital and doctor’s fees are excluded from Accident on Set benefits, so please ensure the necessary protections are in place.

Note: If you are working on an Accident on Set insured Canadian production in the U.S., Accident on Set covers only Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents working on that set.
